Evaporator motor in freezer makes howling noises. It runs normal speed, then runs slow and struggling, back and forth. All else works fine, any help please on what to do or replace, thanks, Ken
Replace the motherboard in the back, there is a new board, so you will have to call to get the replacement.
So the fan motor is not the problem? How does the mother board work into this problem? Ive seen other blogs on different sites, where people have replaced that motor to fix the problem. Thanks for help!
You have the infamous motherboard that sends different frequencies to the evaporator motor as a function of cooling needs. If you had a frequency meter, you would see this change as the evaporator fan changes.
so the new mother boards are updated, with no problems ? I have heard the old one had problems, thanks for the help!
I assume it is updated as your old motherboard is no longer available. Generally suppliers force updates to prevent litigation.
As a servicer, I would replace both the motherboard and evaporator motor and add a 1000 joule surge protector to the wall outlet. Also I would add a slinger/umbrella to the motor shaft to prevent bearing failures to an expensive motor.
Read gene and my sticky post on this subject.
