Estate Gas Dryer with no heat

My Whirlpool Estate gas dryer will not heat up. I checked continuity on the two thermostats and they were both closed, and I replaced the gas coils but still no heat. Can you help me please?

Not without a model number.

Eric

Sorry for forgetting that. The model is TGDX640PQ0. Thank you

Does the igniter work? Do you see glow from it? If not, check for 120vac to ground at thermal fuse (check on each blue wire) on blower housing. If not there, check at thermal cutoff on heater box.

Eric

Yes, the igniter works well, glows but it doesn’t light. I replaced the two coils and thought that would do it but it still didn’t light. I tested everything for continuity and it was all good so I am baffled.

Heat from igniter should cause flame sensor to open. This should cause secondary gas valve to open and remove power to igniter. Gas should be ignited by still hot igniter. Does igniter go out or stay on continuously? If it cycles on/off, then flame sensor is working, if not, it may be stuck closed.

Eric

The igniter goes on and after maybe 10 seconds or a little more, it goes off and then the machine make a louder noise (can’t explain that) and when the noise stops the igniter lights again and the same things happen again.

Assuming you do have gas, sounds like the gas valve coils. Where did you get the replacements from? There are lots of junk coils on the market. You should only buy genuine Whirlpool FSP parts.

Eric

Yes I did buy Whirlpool parts. This dryer was sitting for a while disconnected. Is there any chance something is blocking the gas from going through. I checked the line to the dryer and there is plenty of gas in that line. Where the gas flows through, is there anything there that can go bad or get clogged up. I was thinking maybe spiders could have built a nest inside that tube. I know I’m grasping but what do you think? And thanks for all your responses. I really appreciate it.

I don’t really hear any click when I start the dryer. And for sure there is no second click.

Then your gas valves are not working. If the coils are good, flame sensor is opening, then I would replace the valve assembly.

Eric

Hi, I just double-checked it. There is no click at all except from the motor. But nothing from the valve or coils or either of the two switches. I don’t see anything in the parts list called valve assembly. Is that the burner or dryer gas valve coil kit? The coils I have already replaced.

Hi, I cannot find the gas valve on this website. I would be happy to purchase it. I did go out and buy a flame sensor and installed it but that didn’t fix the problem. I think the valve is the last thing. Is it possible to be in the control panel at the top of the machine?

I provided the link in post number 10.

Thanks so much for all of your help!
