Erratic squealing maytag dryer

Main Symptom: SQUEALING EXTREMELY LOUD
What happens & when: Completely erratic extremely loud squealing noise, occurs without warning, regardless of load size, or any other variables. It doesn’t occur with every cycle. Resolves by turning the dryer off and on again. I do believe there has been smoke generation at one point when it first happened, but we’ve been able to catch it each time since then. I have performed some repairs on the dryer previously without issue, and have taken it apart and cleaned it this time, but there didn’t seem to be anything wrong. No belt wear. Heating normally. Thanks!

Hi,

Common squeak noise makers….from most to least common:

Roller wheels.

Idler pulley.

Something caught in the drum felt(s)…a screw or such.

Fan blower.

Motor.

Motor pulley.

Belts normally don’t make noises. Intermittent problems like yours are the worst! You wish it would just break and stay broken so you can find the trouble maker.

As of today, the dryer is no longer producing any heat.

Does this narrow the scope and can you advise what I need to purchase?

Unfortunately no heat doesn’t really put us closer to the noise trouble maker :frowning:
