Dryer maintains lowest heat at all heat settings. Very slow dry. Also when door is opened with time remaining the heat doesn’t shut off even though the drum ceases to rotate and the fan stops. When the dial is moved to off the heat shuts off. Suspect thermostat and possibly heating element.

Looks like your model number is missing 3 digits at the front.

Check the heating coil.
Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil.
Check it with a meter, should be around 10 to 12 ohms.
Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not the coil may have sagged or broken and is touching the case. This can cause it to run all the time on a low heat depending how it grounded.

Thanks for your reply. The first three digits are 110.I think my major concern is that the heating element won’t shut off when the dryer door is opened mid cycle.The door can then be closed and if the start button is not depressed to continue the cycle then the heating element continues to heat risking fire. This may be the timer or the on off switch but that exhausts my ideas.

I suppose the thermostat which is a common failure item on these dryers could also be involved. At any rate thanks for your help.

I tried to find a wiring diagram and also a actual parts breakdown diagram but had no luck with either.

All I can tell you is that the unit is a Whirlpool.

My original post is still valid.
The unit has 2 centrifugal switches on the motor. They are activated when the motor gets close to operating speed. One of them closes to provide power to the heater so that there is air flow over the heating coils before they turn on.

For some reason your unit’s heater is on with no motor rotation and a grounded element is the most common cause.
