I have an electric dryer that once started will run for 20-30 seconds then kick off. When started it makes an awful noise that persists during the short run time. The drum is turning and the dryer is putting out heat, so I am unsure as to what the issue could be.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Could be there is too much drag on the motor.
This then causes the motor to overheat. It then trips it’s internal thermal protect and you have to wait for the motor to cool down (protect resets) before it will restart.
Try turning it manually in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other units just to get a feel for it.
Carefully run your fingers around the front and back of the drum where it meats the frame to see if something has jammed in between the two. Bra wires are famous for this. Be very careful in case the object is sharp.
If there is nothing you will have to open it up and check the following.
The blower to make sure something has not dropped into it.
The motor bearings.
The rear drum support rollers.
The front drum support glides.
The belt idler wheel.
