Electric Dryer is Overheating

What happens & when: I just want to verify that I hooked up the wires correctly

For the power supply cord, the red and black wires would be placed on the outer terminals while the white wire would be placed on the center terminal. If the outlet is set correctly, this should supply 120 to each of the outer terminals (measuring 240 Volts AC when testing the two wires for voltage). The center post is going to be the neutral post. If the power cord is a 4-wire, the green ground wire would attach to the cabin. If the wires are set in this manner, and 240 Volts AC is measured when testing from the red wire to the black wire posts, the power cord would need to be unplugged and the heating element can be tested for continuity to the metal housing while the wires are unplugged from it. If there is continuity, the heating element has grounded out and replacing the element should correct the issue.
