My dryer wasn’t drying the clothes. It got to a point that it wouldn’t start every time. I cleaned lint from the back of the dryer around the exhaust at the bottom, the flexible aluminum exhaust hose and out side where it comes out of the house. Now, it makes a noise like it wants to start, but it doesn’t.
Heelllpppp!!!
open the door and manually turn the drum .. both ways. if it doesn’t turn, you most likely have a bad motor, but something could be stuck in the blower, but i doubt it. when it wouldn’t start everytime before, the motor was on it’s way out then. not too expensive, but tricky to put in if you’re not a mechanic.
Ummm, I’m having the same problem with my dryer - it actually usually runs for a while but then stops midway through the cycle. When I try to restart it, it just won’t start - it sounds like it wants to but can’t do it. The timer continues to run, but the dryer won’t work for another several hours, at which point it will start up when I try it again. Now tonight, it’s been sitting all day and it won’t start. I tried to spin the drum by hand to check the motor, as suggested in this thread, and the drum DOES spin. It turns both ways. The lint catch is clean and we’ve checked the big fat dryer hose and it seems to be clear. . . Now what?!?
Yup, bad motor.
