Dryer will not start

The dryer was running fine and finished the load of clothes. When the clothes were removed and a new load ready the dryer would not start. By not starting I mean it is dead. There is power to the dryer. Any ideas?

Your dryer will not run if:

  1. The door is open, or if the door switch is bad. (Does the light go off and on as you manually trigger the door switch?)
  2. The thermal fuse is “blown”, or open.
  3. The timer isn’t sending voltage to the motor.

The most common cause is a blown thermal fuse. You need to check it for continuity. If it is good, the next thing to check is the door switch. The least common failure (and the most dangerous to check) is the timer.
