Dryer will not dry clothes

dryer element lights upfor about 7-10 seconds then goes out . this happens all threw-out the cycle. dryer is hot but clothes are not dry

Undo the dryer from the exhaust
Run a load
If the load dries correctly then you have a vent problem.
Clean/check the vent system. Make sure the outside louvers open fully.

If you do not want lint in the house.
Take a pair of pantyhose, put one leg into the other and attach this to the dryer exhaust.
Leave enough room behind the dryer so it can blow out like a windsock.
Run a load.

Both the above will allow you to check the air flow and temp.
It does sound like you have an air flow problem
Most likely causes are the vent system or the blower wheel

thank you a whole lot denman, I finnally got my contractor to come out and fix the drier on friday. however, you were 100% correct.
The outside vent goes under the garage floor and out the other wall. the pipe was full of water. the contractor says it come from the hot dryer air mixing with the cold air from the concrete floor. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future. thanks

I have several possible.
I would also suspect that the water may be leaking into the pipe.
If you know that this is not a possibility then perhaps one of the following will work or at least diminish the problem. Many of them may not be possible

  1. Reroute the vent pipe
  2. Put a drain hole in the bottom of the pipe at a low point. Problem is it is not a good idea to add moisture under your slab.
  3. Run a high heat cycle before actually doing a load of wash. This should preheat the pipe and reduce condensation. Also always use a cycle like permanent press where you have a cool down after the clothes are dry. This should clear the pipe of some moisture.
  4. Get a self priming pump and pump it out periodically.
  5. Insulate the pipe

Hopefully this pipe has fairly easy access for clearing a clog. The water will trap lint and the lint will eventually plug the pipe.

Perhaps someone else will jump in with a better idea of how to run a vent pipe through a non heated area.
