Hey Mike. Saw your other post, but will keep it here.

110.62802101 dryer
It stops at the end of the cycle, but the timer continues to run until it starts the next cycle. If I turn the timer, the machine starts whenever it enters a cycle (without pressing the start button). The only time the timer stops is when the door is open. I’ve tried two new timers and both have done the same thing. Just ordered a new start switch. If that isn’t it, I’m not sure what to try next. Any ideas?

Your Kenmore 110.62802101 should have its wiring diagram taped to the inside of the control-panel console. If you can, snap a clear photo of that diagram and upload it here - it makes pinpointing the fault a lot faster.

Based on what you described, the issue usually comes down to one of two parts:

  1. Start switch (push-to-start). If its contacts stick closed, the motor can restart whenever the timer happens to send power down the run circuit, so the drum starts turning without you pressing the button.
  2. Motor centrifugal switch. This switch is built into the motor itself and isn’t sold separately. When it sticks, it keeps feeding power back to the timer after the motor stops, so the timer never really “rests” at Off.

Since you already ordered the start switch - and it’s a quick swap - install that first. If the dryer behaves after the swap, problem solved. If the symptoms stay the same, post that wiring-diagram photo and we’ll confirm whether the motor assembly needs replacing.

Looking forward to the update.

Glad to hear my instinct was correct about the start switch, although as you describe it, I’m now wondering if the motor switch isn’t more likely. The wiring diagram IS still inside the control panel. Today was the first time it’s been opened since I bought the dryer new in 2001. I’ll scan and upload the diagram if the start switch doesn’t fix the problem. Thanks!

Thankfully it turns out the start switch was the problem. I got it today, and that seems to have fixed it.
