Dryer stops working about every two weeks

Hi

My dryer model WED5700VW0 stops working about every two weeks. It will be running fine and then in the middle of they cycle it will just turn off. Door light and motor are dead. After about 24 hours or so the damn thing will start working all by itself. I have replaced the door switch but it still continues to happen.

I have checked all the fuses and the sensors and they test ok. Once it has started to work I have tested the device by unplugging some sensors and fuses to see if they had any affect on the functioning of the light as this is also dead during the outages.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this to happen? My next step was to replace the timer.

Thanks!

See the attachment for the wiring diagram.

I doubt it is the timer as the interior light does not go through the timer.

Could be the door switch but this is a bit of a long shot that it would not make contact intermittantly to both the Normally Open (motor, start switch etc.) and Normally Closed (light) contacts.

My guess would be there is a problem with the power getting to the unit.
Could be the wall receptacle, the power cord or at the terminal strip in the unit.

I would flip the breaker off and check the above for a loose connection or any signs of overheating or arcing.

If all OK I would check the power cord. With the timer at off and the door open put one meter lead on the plug end and the other meter lead on the terminal strip, should be 0 ohms. Then wiggle the metal plug, wiggle the cord where it comes out of the plug and wiggle the cord where it goes through the strain relief. If the connection goes open, replace the power cord. This will be easier with 2 people. One holding/monitoring the meter and the other doing the wiggling.

May even be in the house panel but I would check the above first.

So do the tests with the breaker off.
