Amana model LED 20 AW stopped functioning. Clothes Drum not spinning freely, tickingsound heard, smell of something overheating / burning. At first, I thought the belt was broken. Pulled the machine apart, but the beltappeared just fine. Disassembled thedrum/case and cleaned everything out. Reassembled it, but the drum still won’t turn, I still hear a timerticking, and I smell something overheating. What should I look at next? Thanks for the help… Russ

Try turning the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this aos a couple other dryers just to get a feel for it. If yours is hard to turn then you probably have a drum mounting problem (drum seals, front glides etc.)
If it rotates OK.
This may take 2 people
Open the door
Manually hold the door switch closed
Push the start button and manually rotate the drum in the correct direction.
Watch your knuckles in case it starts up.
If it does start up, odds are high that you need a new motor.
Could also be that the motor is jammed solid with lint and this is preventing the Start/Run centrifugal switch from resetting (the unit is trying to start with out the motor’s start winding in circuit.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunatly it didn’t work. The drum will not turn in either direction and when we hold the button in and try to start the dryner, it wont start. Sound like your recomending a new motor. Did I understand that correctly? Thanks.
No I am not recommending a new motor.
The drum will not turn by hand so it is probably jammed or there is a problem with the drum support devices.
Try running your hand around the front and the back of the drum seals to see if something is jammed in there. Be careful in case it is something sharp.
If you open it up and remove the belt and the motor will not rotate manually then you need a new motor.
