Dryer starts in certain cycles only

I have an Admiral 5 cycle 3 temp dryer model # AED4475TQ1 that is 1 and a half years old. As of this morning, The dryer will only start in the cool down cycles of the 1). Auto Sense Dry high heat and 2).Time dry low heat.

And I have to slightly toggle the selector knob back and forth clockwise and counter clockwise with the start button pressed at the same time in order to get the dryer to run.

The continuity to the heating element, the thermo fuse, the high limit and cut off fuse, and cycling thermostats is good, and the cycling thermostat properly cycles on and off.

What’s wrong with the dryer? Is it the selector knob mechanism itself that is bad?

See the attachment for the wiring diagram.

It does sound like a timer problem.

To confirm this unplug the unit and set it to where it does not fun.
Then check that the timer contacts that should be closed are closed. The wiring diagram has a timing chart.

Be sure to disconnect at ;least one side of any contact set you are checking. This prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path/
