For any cycle (e.g. air – this is not a heating problem), the motor runs for a short time (less than a minute), and then the cycle stops. There is, perhaps, an unusual buzzing sound during this time, coming from somewhere near the motor. There is definitely a burning smell, but I can’t tell where it’s coming from. Then the cycle stops and won’t restart. After awhile (half an hour?) I can repeat the same thing.

The selftest passes. “88”. All the fuses/thermistors/etc test correctly.

The motor start winding is 4.2 ohms, which is just barely above the “4 ohm” limit specified by test #2 step 7. Does this indicate an issue with the winding? How can I verify that?

The motor main winding is 3.6 ohms, which is the top of the range.

The control electronics measurement from p1-3 to p1-4, unplugged, is an open circuit. The tech sheet says to replace the control if the resistance here is low. Is this supposed to be open?

Any ideas?

That sounds like the motor is overheating and cycling on the overload protector built into the motor. Is the drum very difficult to spin by hand?

It is not, but your note made me wonder about the centrifugal switch. If it were stuck on, this is what would happen, right? Starting winding engaged forever, gets too hot?

Possibly, there’s an easy test to see if we’re looking at the motor or something else. Try pulling the dryer out some and disconnecting it from the venting system, then run it again and see if it does the same thing.

If it does then either the motor is bad or you’ve got a bunch of lint and debris built-up in the cabinet/blower/air channels causing it to overheat.

If it runs normally while disconnected from the home’s venting then the issue is with restricted airflow through the vent system.

oh, yeah, i did that first thing. no lint inside, nothing connected to the outlet. i’ll order a motor. thanks!
