I have an electric GE dryer, model DRSR495EG8WW…Yesterday I pushed the start button, but only heard a low humming sound…the dryer did not start…drum will move manually. I had not used the dryer for approx. 24 hours prior. I always clean lint screen after every use. I unplugged, disconnected the duct from the dryer and vacuumed. Reconnected duct and plugged back, still only heard a low humming sound when I pushed the start button. Today I was going to attempt to hold in the door switch, push the start button, and manually turn the drum, BUT before I attempted I plugged it in and pushed the start button and it started working. Is the motor going bad? Or did it just have too much dust or lint accumulation?
The motor is the first failure suspect in such situation. If it will happen again, replace the motor.
