My dryer just stooped heating up enough to dry clothes. The start button stopped working and so I just have to turn the dial for any cycle and it goes on but the cycles run continuously without completely drying. Silver heat shield inside gets hot but I don’t feel air blowing. It spins just fine. This is just over 18 months old any suggestions?
Hi sue1759
The first thing I would do is check the continuity across the start switch terminals. It should be normally open and if it’s closed then replace the start switch.
How did you check the air flow? Did you dis connect the vent hose from the dryer?

ok it’s spinning and the plate is warm but not getting hot–only when it wants to
I really need you to answer on my questions in order to help you.

I am able to turn it on with the door open since I had to change the way the door opens. That is how I know that no air is blowing in but it is coming out of the vent.
If the dryer can be turned on with just the timer and without the start switch, then the start switch is probably bad and has to be replaced.
If the dryer is working with the door open this is a major safety issue and the door switch has to be replaced or the door needs an adjustment.
If the dryer heats up but not drying properly, most likely the problem is a clogged vent or the blower inside the dryer. Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and run a load with the hose being disconnected. If you see a difference, then the vent has to cleaned.
