Dryer no heat--how to repair

I have a de410 dryer (maytag). The tumbler spins and the air blows, but there is no heat.
I checked continuity across the thermostat (with wire disconnected) and the resistance is zero. Which I believe is correct and normal. So then I assume that the problem is the heater. I can only see one terminal from the back access of the dryer, so my questions are:

  1. Is my trouble shooting correct to target the heater?
  2. How do I access the heater to repair? Do I need to take apart the whole dryer or can this be done from the back or is there access from the front?

thank you:)

Here is a manual that is not an exact match to yours but should be close.

You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

Yes. There is also a hi-limit thermostat and perhaps a thermal fuse (cut-off)
I would check the power first. The heating coil requires the full 240 volts.
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times.
Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Do this with the heater off and on.

See the manual.
You may as well open it right up and give it a bit of an overhaul.
Check the front and rear drum supports, the idler wheel, the drum seals, the belt, any internal air flow seals etc.
Give the interior including the blower wheel a good cleaning.
Also a good time to check/clean your vent system.
