Dryer makes loud noise when it finishes the drying cycle

Magic Chef:
Model Number: YG20JN1
**Main Symptom: Dryer is loud when running. When it stops, it makes a loud metallic noise **
What happens & when: When it stops running, it makes a loud metallic grinding noise.

Our very old Magic Chef dryer has the problem I described above. I only heard it once, because it’s at our cottage and I’m not there right now. I’ll be there next weekend and will be able to better describe the noises it makes. In the meantime, does anyone have an idea of what’s causing this? I fixed one faulty dryer in my lifetime, and hope to fix a second.

Thanks!

Since you’re hearing a metal grinding noise at the end of the cycle—along with a loud noise during operation—it’s most likely caused by either a worn roller or a failing motor.

When you’re able to check it, try to determine whether the noise is coming more from the back of the dryer or from the center-left side. This can help narrow down the culprit.

Thank you for the advice. I will look at it soon.
