The dryer recently started making a metal on metal grinding noise. I remove the back panel plate to check the belt and pulley. The belt did not appear to have any cracks or chuncks missing. The pulley was inline and did not appear damaged. I applied some lithuim grease to the pulley and did not help. What else could be causing the noise?
There are five bearing that you need to replace. Four in the front of the drum and one in the back, to replace these first disconnect power. Then remove the top by removing the two screws in the door pointing upwards. Once off the top should come off. Then remove the two screws pointing towards you (one on each side). Once off the front should come off and you should be able to see the four bearings (slides) replace all four. Note if you are hearing metal-to-metal noise the barring support may need replacing as well. Then reach under the tub and disconnect the belt. Once the belt is loose slide the drum forward a few inches and look behind the drum. At the center of the drum there will be a shaft with a bearing, replace the bearing and the shaft if needed (normally not necessary to replace shaft).
