Dryer is loud (like shoe in dryer)

The dryer heats but has a loud noise sort of like a shoe in the dryer. We don’t know much anything about dryers but thought we’d take a look and see what was to be seen. Took off the back panel, used vac on dust/lint and metal shavings dust particles :frowning: Don’t know what is causing the noise or metal shavings. Any suggestions on what it sounds like it could be? Oh, how do ya get the front panel off?

you’re gonna need some new rollers Unplug it remove the screws under lint screen grab hold of top in back just under control panel and pull forward that will release the top from the clips in front flop the top back and let it rest against wall. inside front panel are two 5/16 hex screws reomove those lift front up and off clips release belt from idler paying attention how it is looped for reassembly leave belt on drum grab a hold of belt from top of drum and using belt as a handle remove it in the rear bulkhead assy is your rollers dont remove the shaft from bulkhead just the clip in the groove and on left side you have to remove push nut and screw going into bottom of machine replace both rollers and the belt since its torn down reassemble in reverse order

Thanks, v2k04. I’ll have my hubby see if he can pull it apart when he comes home from work (oh, won’t he be happy to have that to do). When I looked up the rollers and belt, an idler pulley was also mentioned. Will that need replaced too? Thanks

Forgot to mention that when I emptied the vac after using it on the dust/lint/metal shavings I found a spring (sort of like on a pen but bigger of course). What would it go to?

a bad idler will usually squeal but if you want to repolace all mechanical parts you just as well

What would the spring be from?

Something the from your Husbands pocket maybe? lol I didn’t look up your model but 15 years ago or better Whirlpool used springs in the door they also had a cable running from the spring you could see the cables on the door when it was opened.these style dryers had a real small round door opening

I just looked up the model and your dryer does have springs on the door if the spring was lying in the cabinet more than likely the cable broke

Sorry if this is a dumb ?, but when you said “remove the screws under lint screen” you were referring to a dryer with a lint screen on top (like ours) and not in the door right?

Thanks, v2k04 for your suggestions.
