I took this machine apart a few months back cleaned out all the lint and replaced the vent pipe (only a 10’ run). We empty the lint trap after every load and rarely use the machine because we line dry except in winter. Now the cloths are starting to smell again so I’m guessing lint is building up. Is it possible that the lint trap is worn out? Or is there some other seal that needs replacing?
Chompie,
Yes, you’d want to remove the filter and the filter housing and check for residual lint left in the housing and blower assembly.Check for lint in the bottom of the dryer(again) could be you didn’t get everything back together tight ?
Have you been using chemicals in the area/house, like pesticides, paint, wax, etc. ?
That could also be the problem, if you have, the odor gets drawn into the dryer flame and gets transferred to the clothes during the drying process.
Thanks, I’ll open her back up, clean her again, and be more careful putting her back together. Its hard rule out foriegn odors as its in the basement.
Chompie,
It’s a little “old fashioned” but, one of the easiest ways to determine the source of an odor, is to heat an area of the article with a blow dryer or iron, and smell it. You can pretty much determine the source based on that.
