It seems that we have to force the our Maytag dishwasher door open after each completed cleaning. The ensure that the ‘lock’ indicator light is not on (its the same indicator as the ‘Heated Dry’ option). It seems that the latch doesnt want to release. Does anyone have any ideas to what this is happening? Do I need to release the latch antoher way? The Maytag service dept was not helpful.

Check that the strike is not bent.
This is the metal part attached to the frame that inserts into the door lock.
If it is OK you will have to open the door up so you can see what is wrong with the latch.

The plate is not bent. The strange thing is, the door opens and closes fine after its forced open. Its seems that it is locked from the wash cycle, and Im missing some sequence of buttons to release the plate from the latch.
As far as I know the latch is just a mechanical device and has nothing electrical that locks it.
Strange though that it works sometimes and not others.
Perhaps it is loose and by foercing it open you force it into the correct position and then it works OK for a while.
