Door boot seal dirty, crusty

Last week while attempting to repair my dryer, my wife told me the washer was leaking. After downloading the repair manual and tearing it down, I found the door boot seal has a heavy build up of soap/softener on the inside all around the area with the small holes.

I would like to clean this stuff off, but am not sure how to get it all. I’ve soaked it in hot water with dish soap, and got a bunch of it, but there’s more that won’t come off. It is soaking in bleach water now, so I can clean off the mold, too.

Will glass cleaner take the stuff off? Contemplating sealing it up with silicone…

Really don’t want to spend $170 or so for a new one.

Thanks.

Found out that a small piece of concrete had broken loose from the weighted ring and rubbed a hole in the tub’s front house. So, I got out my Loctite Weld resin and hardner, only to find that the resin had hardened on its own. Only used it once about two years ago. So, I got out my 15+ year old JB Weld and used that instead. Then, I covered that with a layer of silicone. Let it sit for a day or so, put it all back together, and voila! It works!
