Dishwasher Repair

Dishwasher’tube does not fill (it does some water). Also, nothing happens, however, when the cycle is cancelled, it drains.

I am inclined to replace the entire “Sum & Motor Assembly” (Part No. AP5962285).

I realize that this is the most expensive way, but it will probably make my life easier. Would you kindly provide me with any comments or suggestions?

Also, I would appreciate if you could give me some schematic how to remove the Assembly.

Thanks for your help and comments.

go to www3.sears.com and enter your model and it will show you a schematic of your dishwasher

Not sure about the problem.

You said “Dishwasher’tube does not fill (it does some water).”, this will have nothing to do with the pump.

When you say “nothing happens” is it really nothing or can you hear the pump running.

Perhaps after it does the fill, add a few quarts of how water. Just be careful that you do not over fill it.
Then see if it starts to wash.

If it does then you have a fill valve problem.
Since some water is entering the tub the most likely cause is a partially plugged screen filter on the input side of the valve.
Remove the valve and check/clean the screen. Do not permanently remove it as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cayse a flood.

I would like to confirm/clarify, that at the start of washing “very little water fills the tube” this means some water. Regarding “nothing happens”, you are correct; I can hear the pump running.

Thanks for your help; also, can you show where the “fill valve” is located, and the part number.

If you go to the ********** parts site they have actual parts breakdowns.

Usually it is behind the kick plate on the left side.

Based on your information, I was able to check and confirm that “Fill Valve” is one of the problems.

In addition, I have checked the “Lower Wash Arm” and found out that rotates freely but appears to have a significant horizontal “Play”. The question is how much gap it should have?

Furthermore, I filled with water up to the limit, to check if the upper and lower “Wash Arm” rotate during the washing cycle. Neither one work at all. Can you give a possible reason for not working?

Once again, thanks for your help
