Hi Davery, have you checked the drain pump to make sure it’s turning on? Also, check that there’s no debris stuck in it and that the impeller isn’t damaged. Have you recently installed a garbage disposal? I would start by checking the drain pump first.
Thanks for replying. When I noticed it not draining I also noticed the pump was leaking. I replaced the pump thinking that was the issue, but it was not. I did have a tech come out and he told me the control board and wiring harness needed replacing, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in his diagnosis. He seems a bit clueless. This is probably a stupid question, but does a dishwasher generally only drain the water at the end of the wash or does it add water then drain and add water then drain, etc? I don’t specifically hear the pump running, but I am not sure what I am listening for. The wash cycle is very long and if I could narrow down when the pump is to kick on, it might help. My situation is different as my dishwasher does not drain into the garbage disposal. It drains into the kitchen sink waste line under the house. I removed the drain hose from the dishwasher and blew through it and it seemed clear.
The drain pump should run at the beginning of every cycle to clear out any leftover water before the wash cycle starts. Since you’re not hearing or seeing it drain, did the technician remove the drain pump during the repair?
No, he did not remove the drain pump. The pump is new, but is there a way to test the pump?
All my controls are hidden when the door is closed. I have been told when hit “cancel” and close the door I should hear the pump, but I hear no sound when I do this. Here is what I do not understand. If the pump is not working and the dishwasher runs through the normal filling and draining cycles, where does the water go? The overflow would not be able to overcome the drain hose loop to discharge the water, so either the normal cycle of fill/drain is not working or the pump is working some of the time.
The drain pump should run at the beginning of every cycle. If you don’t hear the water trying to drain or hear the pump turn on at the beginning of the cycle, there may be an issue with the drain pump or an interruption in the signal going to the pump.
You’ll need a multimeter to properly test the pump. I’m going to post the tech sheet to help guide you through checking and testing the drain pump.
Thanks. Is it possible since my discharge hose connects to the waste line under my house the water from the dishwasher is being sucked through the overflow after each cycle?
That would be hard to tell without checking it first. Sorry!
