My KitchenAid 10 years plus dishwasher ( KUD1230BWH0/F) has just started leaking. Water drips down the tube that the water level float sits in. Flow is intermittent, not continuous, and amounts to a couple of cups during the cycle. Leak is definitely coming down tube and not leaking at gasket into base of machine. When tube is capped with tape - no leak. When float “hat” is replaced, leak occurs. Electrical float operated water level switch appears to operate normally. When this switch is raised manually, water flow into machine is stopped.
Any ideas how to solve this dilemma. A similar problem was reported in 2009 but does not appear to have been resolved in the Forum.

Check and make sure the dishwasher is level in both directions,
Did you notice if the float had a smooth movement when you checked it. and the water level in the tub after a 5 minute fill and wash should be in contact with the bottom of the heater element.
If all these are proper, check the lower spray arm, for hairline cracks or debris in the venturi openings,and the spray arm bearings/seal, it could be water being blown into the float openings and running down the stem.re

Tried your suggestions but no luck. Unit is level. Water level is just below heater element. Float is smooth. No apparent leaks or blockages in spray spinner. Any other ideas? Problem just came out of nowhere. Unit has been running just fine for many years!!

Chris,
Did you remove or block the lower wash arm, and run the dishwasher for a few minutes, and see if water drips down the float tube. That will help to isolate the issue.
I’m pretty sure thats where the issue is, and by blocking or removing the lower spray arm , you’ll reduce any possible wave action from the water and any mis direction of water from the spray arm assembly.

Did as suggested. With spray arm removed, tube stayed dry.
Next I inserted the spray arm with tape over the arm ends and outer nozzle exits. Result was slight increased flow but better than without tape. Still unable to see any debris (have flushed unit) or splits. However if you think this confirms a defective spray arm the next problem is that the item is no longer available!!! Thanks for all your help.
