I’m having a problem (apparently) with the sump-pump gasket - our dishwasher has been leaking from underneath. I had a Kitchenaid/Whirlpool repair guy come out and stated he was 100% confident that the sump pump gasket was the culprit but it would be $300 in labor to repair and only a $20 part. He looked at the issue briefly and didn’t install confidence in me. The problem occurs 1-2 minutes into the initial filling of water when the cycle’s started. A small, constant drip starts near the middle-right underneath the dishwasher, about 10" back from the front but a few inches in from the right hand side. I know, hard to describe…
From what I’ve read it sounds like the whole dishwasher needs to be unhooked (unfortunately the electrical was hard-wired into the dishwasher by the previous owner of our house), and the whole sump pump removed in order to replace the gasket. Before I do this I wanted to check with the experts here on the viability of a novice do-it-yourselfer going at it. Here’s the part I think I need: WHIRLPOOL Gasket, Pump sump, part number: 8268395
The current gasket looks to be in good shape and doesn’t have any visible signs of wear but then again maybe there’s a crack somewhere in it.
Could the problem be something else? Could it be a leak within the sump pump? I’d guess not considering the leak happens when filling but ideas are welcome.
