the soap dispenser door came loose (not sure how) and now the spring tension is gone and the door won’t spring open at the proper time, thus leaving soap in the dispenser and the dishes half clean. How can I replace the spring so it has proper tension ?
Depending on the model, you may need to replace the entire dispenser as the springs are not available as a separate part number. If you provide a model number, we can help assist you with your question.
I still have the spring, I’m just not sure how to replace it properly. I may not have the very small nimble fingers required to replace it either !
I still need the model number to know which style dispenser you are looking at. Then I may be able to find a photo that shows how it goes together.
The dishwasher is a Whirlpool Quiet Wash Plus, Model DU920PFGB4.
I have attempted to find a photo or image showing how the spring mounts to the dispenser door, but so far have come up empty handed. The spring slides over a metal shaft that holds the door to the inner door panel. It should lye flat when the door is open, but is put under tension when the door is closed. Do you have the door, shaft and spring for your dishwasher? The shaft slides in from the side through a hole in the door and the spring will slide onto the shaft before the end slides through the other side of the door. I will still try and find a unit I can take a photo of and upload it so you can get a better understanding of how it is mounted. As long as you have all the parts and the door and mounts are not broken, it should slide back on.
Although I have all the pieces, the tricky part is to orient the spring so it has the proper tension. And I can get them all back on, but so far, not with the proper spring tension. I will try again, this time with the door in the closed position … not sure it will make a difference.
