Hi Guys, We bought this refrigerator new from Sears about 6.5 years ago. We never had a problem with it until 3 months ago when we found water on the top shelf and under the crisper.
I then found your repair forum, and from there, I removed the interior freezer panels, thawed the frozen water trough and frozen drain opening using a hair dryer. I then poured hot water through the drain tube which ran immediately into the catch pan underneath the refrig. I also pushed plastic trimmer string through it as well. Then, a month later it froze up again, and I performed the same procedures a second time. Now, another month later, it’s froze up for a third time. I’m about to hang a can under the vent between the freezer & refrig. Is there anything I can do, or buy from you guys, to fix what has turned into a monthly problem? Thank you. Keith

I have exactly the same problem as Keith and have made exactly the same repair steps. That drain hose continues to freeze and recreate the problem. Has any solution ever been discovered?

There is a jiggery pokery fix, note that I have never tried this but have see others say that it works.
First make sure your drain line is clear/clean and there is no dust etc. slowing down the flow at the drip tray end.
Often it is a good idea to flush it out with a 10% bleach solution.
Flush it, let it sit for 15 minutes and do it again. Do this a number if times.
Often crud grows on the tubing walls and you are trying to kill it and flush it out.
Just be careful that you do not overflow the drip tray.
Also wear old clothes unless you are into the tie dye look.
Jiggery Pokery Method
If the unit has a calrod (black/greyish defrost element)
Get a piece of bare 14 or 12 gauge wire and wrap it once or twice around the defrost heater.
Then position the other end so it goes down the drain tube about an inch.
The idea is that during defrost the wire will also warm up some and melt any ice that has formed.
