Defrost control timer for frigidaire 25yrs old

Hello
I’m working on repairs to my ancient refridge any am looking for any help you all can give me. I have no appliance repair experience at all so please bear with me.I’m preety sure that I’ve got the faulty part figured out. The new defrost control timer that replaces my old one looks identical except that there is a wire coming out of it where my old one does not. I havnt got the part in my hands yet. i want to be sure that I’m doing the right thing first. Is there something that wire conects to, and also should I replace the themostat control at the same time

The reason why I think its the defrost control timer is that when I jiggle the wires that plug into the unit the compressor or motor (?) kicks on, and when it does run it will shut down before the temps are cold enough

Thanks for any help you can give me

Give us the part # of the defrost control.

It’s 5303917634. Thanks for responding. I may not need it after all, but would still like to know. I put everything back together after reading in this forum and other sites to verify the symptoms and overnight everything seems to have gone back to normal. My fresh food compartment is now @ 44- 45 degrees. With the unit beeing 25 yrs old it may break down again tomorrow. I will be keeping a close eye on it for the next few days

To keep food from spoiling, they advise to keep the fridg section around 41 degrees, yours is still too warm. If the fridg has trouble getting there, you will find your monthly electric bill is around $100 higher!
That defrost control is a universal one, should come with instructions. The wire is the motor wire, usually you stick in the middle terminal of the ones 3 in a row, the isolated terminal is the other terminal for the motor. Just check your old control and wire it the same.
