Dacor double wall oven lite inop

for some reason, my dacor double wall ovens wont illuminate ( inside the oven ) when the lite buttons on the panel are pushed ( there are two buttons, one for upper oven and one for lower ). Any ideas would be appreciated.

The first thing I would check are the light bulbs.

Gene, I will check the bulbs. But, since they both failed at the same time, it seems unlikely. Is there anything that could cause both lite switches to fail at the same time ( something in the control panel )?

Lets do one thing at a time. Check the light bulbs first.

Is there push in switch on the door frame or just the pad on the control panel? What is the complete model number of the oven?

Gene, no buttons on the door. The model number is MCS 227S.

Gene, also, I did check one of the bulbs ( there are four total, two in each oven ). The bulb was fine. There are two buttons on the control panel. One for the upper oven and one for the lower. Neither button causes anything to happen.

Do you hear the faint click of a relay when you press a button, or no sound at all?

No, absolutely no sound at all on either button.

I suspect a bad relay or control board.

Open the control panel and check the low voltage lights transformer. The lights in this oven are a halogen 10W 12V, so there suppose to be 12V at the secondary windings. Here are the wiring diagrams for this oven.

  • The part number for the transformer is AP3391742

Gene, that makes sense to me. I will not be at this property until January so cannot look at it until then. But, I will put an output meter on the transformer and see if it is working. I will contact you again in Jan. Thanks for your help. cf

Gene, I still have not figured this thing out. It is in a vacation house and I have not been here since last year. So I just took a look at it again yesterday. I pulled the oven out of the wall, took the inspection cover off of the top to check the transformer. It is putting out rated voltage. So, I reassembled the unit and slid it back into the wall. Now, I am getting random on and off lites on the upper oven only, but not when you push the light switch. It seems to have a mind of its own. But, still no lites in the bottom oven. Sometimes the light goes on when the door is opened. Sometimes it wont go off unless you push cancel. I am baffled.

Could be bad light switches.

You are the expert, but it seems unlikely that both switches would fail at the same time. To me, it seems to be a problem with one of the electronic boards since it is very erratic. Is there one board that controls these lights and if so, what is the part number?

If there is nothing wrong with the light transformer and light bulbs, then there is nothing left but the upper oven relay board. The major difference between the upper and lower oven relay boards is the low voltage transformer on the upper oven relay board.

Gene, thanks for getting back to me. Does the upper oven board also control the lower lights? If not, does that mean I need a lower board also? And, where is it and what is that part number? I will also check to make sure that both sides of the output side on the transformer are working. I may have only checked one and I noticed that there are mulitple leads on it.

  1. Yes, it does.

  2. It is in the control compartment. The part number is posted in the previous reply (above the picture).

Gene, I just placed a call to you. I received the new board and installed today, but the entire display is now dead. So, I took the new board back out and put in the old board and now the display works but still have the light problem as before. The new board appears to the the same, same numbers as old board, terminals line up etc. Is it possible that the new board is bad or could it possibly be the wrong one??

If the new board is exactly the same and you wired it exactly the same way, then looks like the new board is defective. If you bought it through APP, you have to call them Monday and they will exchange it.
