I would like to convert my upright fridge/freezer (2007 model) into a freezer only. I read that the reverse conversion is too much strain on the compressor for a freezer to a fridge, however, i was wondering since this is a smaller fridge anyway, if it was possible to make the fridge part below a freezer too… so the whole thing would be a freezer. I found three vents that were insulated and blocked off and removed their obstructions. I took out the thermostat and wonder if i just changed it to a freezer thermostat, if that would work? And if so, any suggestions for which freezer thermostat i should use?
Forcing a lot of btu’s out of a refrigerator compressor will force it to run almost constantly at lower than normal evaporator temperatures that the compressor was not designed to do.
You can try it by just shorting the cold control and see what temperature the fridg will get down to, you probably will find it will never chill the box down low enough.
