My Whirlpool stove must have some kind of wiring problem. Just replaced the ECP and yet it still isn’t working right. The electronic display does not work unless you have two burners turned on at the same time. IT will then allow you to set the time and start the bake process but powers off intermitendly and then back on. Or if you just have the time showing and you open the oven door, it starts then off and on again. After you turn the burners off within about 2 minutes the display panel goes black again. What could be causing this?
The first thing I would want to check is the
main power leads going to the control itself.
On the control they may be labled P4-1 and P4-3,
and go to a small transformer on the control.
They are red and white wires that lead to the rest
of the harness in back and eventually lead down
to the terminal block where the range cord
is connected. There may be areas in the harness
were there is more than one wire of the same
color tied or spliced together in one spot.
In short you need to check any wire connections
or splices that would eventually lead to the two wires that
supply the clock with power.
Had repair man out this morning that checked the wiring, said the only thing he could tell is that if you disconnect the switch for the accusimmer function the control panel comes on, but he thought that might be not the only problem. Will it hurt to leave this switch disconnected? If it needs to be replaced do you know part #? Thanks
I would like to back up and confirm something.
When you first plug the range in do you get anything
on the display at all or is it completely dead?
it is completely dead. The only way you get anything is if 2 of the burners are turned on. When the burners are turned off the display goes off too. If the burners are on periodically the display flashes off and on, approx every 2 minutes OR it will start immediately with the off and on if you open the oven door.
I certainly don’t want to create a conflict here, but I am a
tich suspicious about his findings and here’s why.
The control on that range connects directly to the
main power line through the wire harness. There
are no switches or controls in line with the electronic
control that can interrupt the power to it. Based on
what I seen on the schematic just about the only
thing that makes sense is a bad connection.
But let me know how he makes out with it.
