My control panel lights dim and go out. When it tap the top of the oven, they come back on though. Sometimes I have to tap harder than others, they always come back on. I took off the top and checked connections and they all seem good. Any advice?
Gene,
I researched this site, read many posts about the clock module. I order one from your site and replaced it (very easy). The display is normally very bright. However, when cooking for than 15 min, the display will go blank. When the oven cools, the display comes back on very bright.
The oven holds temp and the timer continues to work, but we can’t see any of this.
I would appreciate some suggestions about what may be overheating or what I can do…replacing the clock again in less than 30 days is not the solution. Is it a wiring issue? Or a problem on another part?

[quote=Gene;282210]What is the complete model number of the oven?
What is the part number of the clock you ordered?

Gene,
I complete model number is Maytag CHE9800BCE. The clock assembly I order from Appliance Parts Pros was AP4009447 (12001607). Again, it is nice and bright, but does go out when the oven gets hot and comes back on when it cools down.

Looks like there is a power interruption to the display board due to high temperature. The low voltage for the display board comes from the relay board (#14 on the diagram).
You may want to check the wire harness between the relay board and display board. It can be loose connections or a hairline cracks in the plugs.
If there is nothing wrong, replace the relay board.
Gene,
I inspected all the connections and could not find any cracks. Checked the wires and could not find any noticable damage. Looked very close at the control board and saw some food residue on a resistor and cleaned that off. Check all connections. Baked bread and display remained on for over 35 min. before blanking out. Very slight touch on display bought it back on. It faded out again, and again very light touch on dilplay bought it back on and it remainded on for the remaining 20 min. So this is imporved…but not sure if I have really solved the problem. I need to cycle a few more times and continue to monitor and will update you in a few weeks.
I have a Maytag gas stove model CHG9800BAB. It behaves like the post from bonehead. I would like to know if any solutions have been found. Now the light will go off even if the oven is cold. We have to tap it to get it to come back on.
