compatible timers?

Hi, my washing machine is having a problem. It is not stopping at any point but going all the around through all cycles, it occassionally cuts off(generally it has water in it when it does this) and then we have to turn the knob around and keep pulling it out until it comes back on.

I think it’s a bad timer (please verify this if you can) but this brings up another interesting question to mind. Are timers interchangeable or are they specific to that model only? I ask because its a 115V/60HZ 3 cycle timer and I’m wondering if any washing machine timer that fits that description will work because they vary widely in price?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Candy

Here are your parts

Here is a service manual which may help you confirm a timer problem

It does sound like a timer problem!!!

Timers are not universal (timing cams and contacts differ from machine to machine), so you must get the correct replacement for your unit.

Thanks so much for all your help.

One last question. I’m kinda confused, the diagram shows a timer as being part number 7 but then two parts are listed for part number 7. The first one is Part Number: AP4047042 made by WHIRLPOOL and the other is Part Number: AP3757325 made by SPEEDQUEEN. Does this mean I can use either one? Please tell me it doesn’t mean I need both.

Yes, you can use either one (I’d pick the cheaper one). Here is why: a while ago Amana bought Speed Queen (this is a speed queen washer under Amana brand), then Maytag bought Amana. Then right before Whirlpool took over Maytag, Speed Queen decided to go its separate way. So now you have two pretty much identical timers - one made by Whirlpool and one by Speed Queen.

Are there any timers that are compatible with the 10536 like 10535
