I am working on an Tappan oven for a friend and it had an open thermostat. When I went to get a new thermostat, I found it was “NLA”. So I learned something, “NLA” means “no longer available”. I gave the service man the number from the thermostat I was needing to replace, and he suggested maybe trying a generic one from Harper Wyman. I ordered it, got it in the mail, ohmed it out and installed it. The problem I am having is the original thermostat had the numbers on the stove back panel and to increase setpoint you turned the control knob counter clockwise. With the Harper Wyman, to increase setpoint, you turn clockwise. I can use a thermocouple and determine approximate temperature positions and make a new plate for the back panel, but I hate to do that if I don’t have to. Am I overlooking the obvious here or did I just get the wrong thermostat?
