A somewhat recent development… the food chopper assembly gets clogged with food particles and then water doesn’t move right through the jets and dishes don’t get clean. I’ll clean it and it runs OK for a week or so then gets clogged again. How can i tell if chopper is operating correctly or at all? The chopper itself looks intact. I can’t determine if it ever spins. Also what spins the chopper? The pump maybe?

After just taking it apart again to clean the chopper I’m now convinced that the black spindle that drives the chopper has broken teeth and can’t engage the chopper to make it spin. What part is this black spindle? Is it worth replacing on a 12 year old dishwasher?
