Chest Freezer not staying cold

I bought a deep freezer that is about 5 cubic feet big. Seems to be in good shape. And it does get cold but does not stay cold. I go in the garage in morning and the things in there seem to be frozen. Right now we just have a few loaves of bread and coffee in there since we are having issues.

But I go out there through out the day and it seems like everything gets defrosted and never hear it running. I hear it running at night but that is it. It almost seems like it is defrosting but stays that way for too long.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot find any info on the given model number.
Please check it.

The C in a Kenmore number often means it is a Canadian model so info may not be available.
The Sears/Kenmore Canadian website stinks when looking for info.
I know this because I am in Manitoba.

Most chest freezers do not have a auto defrost feature.
The cooling coils are built into the wall of the freezer.

I am going to assume the unit uses an analogue control thermostat and is not digital.

So the next time it is not cooling rotate the control knob up and down (not to off). If the compressor fires up I would say that that is your problem.

If this is a rare unit with an evaporator coil and fan and auto defrost inside the freezer compartment then it could be a problem caused by the ambient temperature in the garage.

My wife said she thinks it is running…She said that the stuff inside is not rock hard but not real soft either. During the day it is really soft.

The weather here in pretty much in the mid-70’s.

Would the temp. In the house be better if so why?

I do not think you have a ambient temperature problem.

The problem occurs when the outside temperature is below freezing when the unit does an auto defrost but because of the ambient temperature the compressor does not come on right after the defrost.
