Checking defrost drain

I had a problem with a clogged defrost drain. I ended up defrosting the refrigerator and removing the drain tube and the “drain gromet” (part 315). There was a clog that I was able to clear out. Now the drain tube is flowing freely, but when I replaced the grommet, I found that water was slowly but continually welling out from between the grommet and the refrigerator. The water was coming not from the drain pipe as I had expected, but from somewhere between the wall of the back of the fridge and the styrofoam insulation around the pipe. It’s possible that it may be water draining from the bottom of the freezer that found a way around the drain hose. I just can’t tell. Any ideas? Am I going to cause a problem if I restart the refrigerator without finding the source of this water?

Jason, There is probably water and ice in the separator compartment. You may need to remove the doors, separator/mullion strip an remove the freezer bottom floor and dry everything out. You could also allow the fridge to set for a few more days,if you can.

Good Luck
