My Maytag Bravos washer sounds like a airplane taking off in the spin cycle. From the internet research I have done, it appears I need to replace the tub seal and bearing. The seal and bearing kit is around $70 on the internet. The tool for setting the bearing is a “Bearing Driver Tool” part number W10447783 for $115. That’s a lot of money for a one-time use. How difficult is it to install the bearing without the tool? Can you give me some hints on how to do it? Thanks for your help.
You will not easily install that kit without the tool. It is probably possible with some threaded rod and a bunch of nuts and washers from home depot but it you don’t get them aligned you’ll be doing it again in a few months.
I’m sure you can find some video of how to do it without the tool, but you’d be better off trying to beg or borrow it from a shop or another poor soul whose done it already.
For reference my employer charges about $300 for the whole job.
Thank you for the advice. Good to know what to expect. I guess I should look around for a place to rent the tool.
