Can I replace the gasket for the diverter motor from inside the dishwasher without unmounting it?

Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ADG 7580
Main Symptom: Leak from diverter motor
What happens & when: A small pool of water on the tray during program cycle. Looks like it’s leaking from the diverter motor. From what I have researched online the leaking is likely due to a worn gasket. I have a ordered a new gasket, and from what I have understood, I can replace the gasket from inside the dishwasher without unmounting the whole dishwasher. Therefore I wonder if I can remove the four screws without anything underneath the dishwasher dropping down?

Unfortunately, it appears this model is not available within the US and has very limited information available. As this is the case, we would not be able to provide in depth information. Based on what I can find, you should be able to remove those screws without issue. However, if the leak is coming from the diverter motor, it is more than likely that the failure is in the o-ring in the sump which is accessed from the bottom by removing the diverter motor. Usually, this part is only available as a part of the entire sump housing.

Thanks a lot for your reply! But wouldn’t a leakage in the diverter motor most likely mean either:

  • Broken diverter motor.
  • Worn diverter motor gasket.

I think it’s dripping from the diverter motor and not the sump gasket.

In my experience, the leak is usually from the o-ring and the water flows down the diverter motor shaft. This makes it appear like the diverter motor itself is the issue when it is not.

You were right. With this model I wasn’t able to access the o-ring from inside the dishwasher. So I had to dismount it and turn it on the side. I successfully removed the diverter motor, and replaced the o-ring without having to replace neither diverter motor nor sump housing. Thanks for the helpful reply!
