Calypso Washer

I’ve got a whirlpool calypso washer. A few months back, the machine started beeping like crazy when plugged in and eventually would settle in a condition where the display read 44 minutes and the machine was completely unresponsive. It wouldn’t accept any controls from the keypad. I used the repair manual (checked the continuity of all the keypad buttons) and ended up replacing the electronic control board. It worked great after that.

Yesterday, the same problem happened. Following the service manual would have me just replace the card again. Is it posible that I got a bad card? Or is it more likely that something else is causing the card to fail. Could it be the power supply? I’d hate to replace the card ($$) again just to have it fail again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A second failure of the board would imply there is something else going on, but since the boards are so prone to failure it may be just bad luck.

Check with the seller of the board and see if it is under any warranty. This site (no we do not work for them, we only volunteer) warrants parts for one year, but there may be exceptions for electronics, so you should talk with the seller of your board, and if you decide to go with a new board make certain you have a good warranty.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything you think I should check before I go ahead and replace the board and fry it as well?

When you pull the old board out check it for any signs of failure (burn’t areas, loose connections etc). Then try to use a meter to check voltage coming into the board.

These boards are just extremely difficult to diagnose, check and you cannot rely on them. Some last 10 years, some 10 minutes.

Go Figure

Replace the board where you choose the cycles from or the board that is behhind the side with the on, off and clear buttons?

Hi Calvin

Please start a new post and post a detailed description of your problem and someone should be able to help you.

We like to have a new set of postings so others can follow the problem, diagnosis and hopefully the successful repair.

Thanks
