This is my 2nd thread here since just joining to try to troubleshoot my Kenmore refrigerator. I have come to the conclusion that it is best that I replace it. So my question for you experts is.
Do you have a specific manufacturer that you like for basic refrigerators?
I have been doing my homework researching different models and reading reviews. I have found a few basic fridges in the 20cu ft range with free delivery. Here they are:
Maytag M1TXEMMWW for $598 on sale at Home Depot and got good reviews even from Consumer Reports.
Kenmore model 60232 for $599 from Sears with ok reviews
Frigidaire FRT21IL6JW from Lowes for $629
Any thoughts about any of these or any others you like?
Any one of these would be a good choice. My recommendation to you is that you have a look at all three, and see which of them has the features you can enjoy for the next few years.
I did check 2 of them out already and liked them both. The Kenmore Coldspot I am replacing is a basic fridge. All three I listed are basic and very similar and the features are not that different. My main reason for posting this question was to hopefully find out if there was a brand or model that I should steer clear of due to a bad reputation for having major problems. Experts that service or repair appliances often have strong opinions due to the repairs they have seen (This is true in the automobile field). So I figured it would be similar and therefore good to ask here.
This is true: But we also have a dilema–we really can’t ethically make value judgements of any one brand against another. Also, a technician will like a certain brand for different reasons that a home owner would. You will notice, however, that Whirpool Corp. now owns Maytag (since 2006).
I appreciate your honesty and understand your ethical dilema.
I was looking at it from a different perspective. I’m a guitar teacher and certainly have my favorite guitars based on their playability, workmanship and how they stand behind their products. However, this is different than if I did repair work for different guitar companies. Now I understand, if you do the authorized repair work for manufacturers, you can’t badmouth the hand that feeds you
I am not sure if Whirlpool owning Maytag is good or bad. I am a Palm Pre user and HP just bought Palm. The word is that with HP being so big they are going to be able to help the Palm brand immensely. However, this has not all played out yet.
It has been my experience that GE makes the most reliable refrigeration system. Rather rare to see a failed compressor or tubing problem. Have seen motherboard problems on the s x s units, but if you use a 1000 joule surge protector, it will prevent most failures.
