Due to our remote location, I do all of my own appliance repair and we need to replace our dishwasher.
In the 8 years, we have owned our current one - it has been a royal pain. Parts are easy to find and troubleshoot, works good but it is definitely designed for planned self destruction. I have replaced the door latch three times and finally built my own buckle to hold it together. The plastic touch cover control panel is worn out. The gaskets are gone. yada yada
I am looking for advice in buying a new dishwasher that is simple, sturdy and easily repaired. The wife wants one with good racks, easy to operate and gets the dishes clean.
Parts are easy to get by internet and UPS or FEDEX. The water here has some scale problems but I have not had to replace the pump, drains or heat elements in our 8 yr old dishwasher.
I have read other posts about direct drives and Whirlpools. I understand commercial dishwashers are an option but the price is a bit daunting.
What do you suggest?
Which brands do you folks repair the least?
What are the weak points of most dishwashers?
What are the dishwashers do you find most durable with simple controls? Hint: I dont care if it has WW2 vintage toggle switches and dials as long as they work.
Any help would be appreciated!
