brown stuff leaking from machine

I noticed water and brown stuff(presume dirt) and some oily substance under the machine. In opening the back vented panel, it was rather disgusting looking. The back of the spinner which is white plastic has a few small holes around it (looks like part of the design). A bottom hole seems to be where this brown stuff sprewed out and when it hit the “fan”, it was spread around inside the cabinet. The clothes were fine. I am guessing the balance ring is leaking. I read that it is filled with a calcium chloride solution which seems like it would cause rust inside the cabinet (there now is). I could not find anything in my search that was a similiar problem. As an aside, back in July it was clean when we had to replace the circuit board in the top panel due to a detergent drip down the back. After that, the machine on spin sounded like a plane was taking off. The machine did not move. Other than the fast loud spin sound, the machine sounded and worked fine.
If this balance ring leak sounds reasonable, I think its time to go shopping for a new machine.

I don’t know if the balance ring is the problem, but your rear bearing is shot and yes, it is time to shop for a new washer.

When you do that you can congratulate yourself for getting 10 years out of a really awful machine that many folks have had to junk much earlier.
