My wife tried to bake some bread the other day and the top of the bread burned as if the stove was in broil mode but the bottom element stayed cool. I have checked the resistance levels with a cheap analog meter on both elements and they are the same. When setting the oven in bake mode there is no power to the bottom element but the top element turns on bright red almost like it is in broil mode. I did not recall seeing a top element being bright red whil ein bake mode and have assumed it is only bright red in broil mode.
I am guessing the control board is faulty but would rather be 100% sure before buying one. The temp sensor does not seem to make sense as I can not see it causing the one element to work instead of the other.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Yes it does sound like the timer/clock control (Item 20 in Section 1) is toast.
You will probably also need an overlay (Item 20A in Section 1). They usually get messed up when you try to get it off the old timer.
If you click on a parts picture a new page will open with more info and a Q&A section which may be helpful.
If you have not already done it, check the wiring from the control to the bake element.
It would not hurt to check the oven sensor (Item 37 in Section 2). Just in case it is doing something weird.
Since you have done some troubleshooting, you may want to order from AppliancePartsPros as they will let you return the control if it does not fix your problem. Please see their return policy.
