I am not expert but I have been playing around with mine all week- changed a bunch of stuff. To me, it sounds like the touch pad button is simply bad and not responding or it is in LOCKED mode. There is a safety mode I think. Have you tried holding the ON button, 5 seconds? Or any button that has a LOCK symbol e.g., LOCK, or even Heated Dry sometimes.
I think it is rare for that button to just go bad. Mine is 12 years old and it works fine- despite the print being worn clear off. You cannot check these for continuity like you can most mechanical switches.
UNPLUG it for an hour. Try again. If still no luck, and you are comfortable, I would open up the front door outer skin and check the ribbon cable. You need a torque bit. Have something nearby to rest the door on. It must stay nearby as wires are attached to it- so be careful not to disturb them. Once open, check the RIBBON CABLE that goes to the top Module. The other module, main one is deeper in the bottom of the machine. There is also an AQUA STOP safety feature.
With the outer door skin off, you can easily remove the lower, bottom panels. Look inside- on the left bottom, halfway in. There is a round ~5" Styrofoam disc. It FLOATS if there is water in the bottom and triggers a system kill switch. DO NOT REACH INSIDE if there is water and it is plugged in- NEVER! Safety first. If there is a water leak, identify the issue obviously. You CAN check that switch with a continuity tester.
If you go the route of changing out parts (what I am doing), you can usually get those boards, modules, etc., on Ebay pretty cheap.
Good luck- post back so we can all learn from you. I hope you fix it!
If all other buttons will respond properly, we can safely eliminate a control lock as a possibility. From there, if the display does not flash or indicate in any way that the start button has ben pressed or that there is an error, the user control would be the most likely cause of failure. 00747893 Dishwasher Control Unit | Genuine Bosch OEM In Stock
