I have a very unusual problem with my Bosch Dishwasher Model SHU43C02UC.
It will not fill with water when you first start the wash cycle (does not fill on any of the cycles, Power Scrub Plus, Regular Wash, Quick Wash or Rinse and Hold)
If you manually fill it then the cycle will complete normally. It empties the wash water and fills with rinse water successfully.
I have tried searching the internet for troubleshooting advice with limited success.
I did find a way to put this model into a self test mode by pressing the regular wash and rinse and hold buttons at the same time. http://www.applianceaid.com/boschDW.html
The instructions were not specifically for the same model as mine but were for SHU4322 & SHU4326 models. When I initiated this test on my machine it filled and washed for quite a long time. As I was not sure what how long this test should take I left if for over an hour at which time the display indicated 0 however the lights above the two buttons used to initiate the test continued to flash. According to the write up at the end of the test an indication of 0 means no faults were detected.
I found the troubleshooting manual for Bosch Dishwashers listed on this site but once again it didn’t specifically reference my model, or any model that required the same buttons to be pressed to initiate the self test.
Questions:
1. Is anyone familiar with testing this particular model? How long should the test take? What indicates a successful test?
2. Any ideas on what might cause this issue? I’m thinking that it must be something with the control board as all the other components seem to be working.

On second look I did find instructions for my model in the troubleshooting manual.

I now have a better understanding of the self test.
I don’t know how but it seems to be working again. All I did was to manually fill it with water, add a cup full of vinegar and run it through a Regular Wash Cycle. Now it seems to work normally.
Thanks for the great info.
I had a similar problem with the Bosch SHU3036: the motor would run for as long as the dishwasher was turned on (>16 hr), but no water would go into the dishwashwer.
I manually filled the dishwasher with water, then started a regular wash cycle. The dishwashwer is now running.
