Brand: Bosch Model Number: SHX863WD5N/13 Main Symptom: Won’t run. What happens & when: E23 right after start.

Parts or tests already tried: I have shut electric supply off for over 10 minutes and restarted. I have reset the control panel. I have cleared all filters and accessible area in front of drain pump.

E23 seems to be triggered by a sensor detecting water remaining in the lower part of the machine, so it’s basically not draining. I did the simple stuff first, and nothing has worked. It seems that I next replace the drain pump. The impeller blade is spinning freely by hand, but the machine will not run at all. It throws an E23 a few seconds after start.
I started to follow a Youtube video for drain pump removal for a similar Bosch machine, but backed out after the situation seemed unclear. I am looking for advice specific to this machine.
On Bosch dishwashers, E23 indicates a drain pump electrical fault. The control detects a problem with the drain pump circuit as soon as the cycle begins, which is why the error appears almost immediately after pressing Start.
Most Likely Causes
Failed drain pump (most common)
Damaged/loose wiring between the control and drain pump
Object jammed in the drain pump causing electrical overload or pump failure
Main control board (triac) failure controlling the drain pump
Recommended Diagnosis
Because the code appears right after start, I’d lean toward an electrical issue rather than a simple drain restriction.
Remove power.
Check filter and pump cavity for glass, seeds, bone fragments, etc.
Access the drain pump:
Verify connector is fully seated.
Inspect harness for corrosion or broken wires.
Measure drain pump resistance.
Open circuit (OL) = bad pump.
Very low resistance = shorted pump.
If pump tests good and wiring is intact, suspect the main control board drain-pump driver/triac.
Service Notes
If the drain pump is physically locked up or electrically open, replace the drain pump.
If a replacement pump immediately triggers E23 again, check for a damaged harness or failed control board.
Probable repair: Drain pump assembly, followed by wiring/control inspection if pump tests good.
I have attached a copy of the service manual and fault code chart, had to break the manual into 4 parts to send
Thank you very much for the service manual! I finally have the drain pump out and it seems to be bad after testing resistance. I am ordering a replacement now from the Appliance Parts Pro website. I’ll follow up after I install and reassemble the machine. Fingers crossed
I took the machine apart, tested the drain pump and it was bad, bought a new pump (which tested good), and after reassembling the whole unit it still throws the same E:23 error
I guess the next step is to replace the wiring harness? Any advice from anyone at this point would be appreciated.
Well, I fixed the problem. I realized after a bit that I had installed the bad pump instead of the good one! Ouch! My boys and my wife all needed attention while I was doing this, and I lost track. Anyway, I took the machine apart, again, put the new pump in, and the machine is now running
