For your Bosch dishwasher (model SHX78CM5N9/25), since the display is functioning, start with a reset procedure before moving on to diagnostics.
Soft Reset (Clears Cycle or Control Glitches)
If the cycle is stuck or the controls are not responding:
-
Open the dishwasher door slightly.
-
Press and hold the Start/Reset button for 3–5 seconds.
-
Wait for the display to show 0:01 or another reset indication.
-
Close the door and allow the drain pump to run (about 1 minute).
-
Open the door, turn the dishwasher off using the On/Off button, then turn it back on.
-
Select a cycle and press Start.
Factory Reset (System Restore)
If the soft reset does not resolve the issue:
-
Make sure the dishwasher is powered on and not running a cycle.
-
Press and hold the designated cycle button (commonly the 4th cycle button from the left or Speed 60) until the Rinse Aid light begins flashing.
-
Continue pressing that same button until the Clean, Sanitize, and Rinse Aid indicators are all blinking.
-
Press Start.
-
The cycle lights will alternate for approximately one minute.
-
When the lights stop flashing, the reset is complete.
-
Turn the dishwasher off.
Diagnostic Mode
If the issue persists, enter the diagnostic program:
-
Press and hold Start/Resume and Speed 60.
-
While holding both buttons, press Power.
-
Release all buttons.
-
The display should show P0.
-
Press Start/Resume to scroll through stored error codes (C0–C7).

Customer-Safe Checks
Before replacing any parts:
-
Reset power at the breaker for 5–10 minutes.
-
Clean and inspect the filter.
-
Verify the pump cover is installed correctly.
-
Check the drain hose for restrictions or kinks.
-
Confirm the water supply is turned on and the inlet hose is not restricted.
-
Remove any debris found in the pump area.
Important: If error code E15 is present, do not continue running the dishwasher until the source of the leak has been identified and corrected.
Factory reset didn’t do anything, and there were no stored error codes
Check the power connections at the dishwasher power terminal connection for loose or damaged connections. Check for loose connections at the power control module. Check the pump for high resistance or ground fault. Beyond that since it is a constantly recurring problem I would suspect the power control board or the user interface. i have attached a copy of the resistance values for the pump motor
